The Royal Cancun, also known as Vacation Clubs International (VCI). The style and layout of the resort is very different from the subsequent designs used later on. Instead of a tall high rise building surrounding the swimming pool in a horse shoe shape, VCI was constructed as a series of low rise buildings with pools, gardens and cobblestone walkways winding through and around the structures. The effect is very relaxing and pleasing to the senses in that you feel like you are staying in a small Mediterranean village. The villa resort is located directly on the beach. The beach here is large and has a gradual slope out into the water. The waves are gentle due to the protection afforded by the bay, and the ocean is safe to swim in at any time.
